Dr. Sandy is a financial economist with over 10 years of professional and consulting experience in matters related to equity, fixed income, and derivatives.
Using various identification strategies, Dr. Sandy quantifies the relationship between firms and shareholders, including institutional investors. He is also experienced with matters related to market efficiency, corporate governance, executive compensation, merger and acquisition disputes, proxy voting, company valuations, day trading, insider trading, and false claims.
Dr. Sandy has consulted for clients including the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau, Federal Trade Commission, Internal Revenue Services, Department of Justice, and numerous corporations. These clients often retain him to work on complex securities cases and valuation disputes related to consumer protection.
In his case experience, Dr. Sandy has worked with clients and experts in all phases of litigation. This includes reviewing pretrial discovery; creating financial models to calculate damages; providing expert support; and critiquing opposing experts’ work. He has been involved in several high-profile cases with multi-million dollar outcomes for clients. Notable examples include the $92.5 million Starz/Lionsgate merger settlement and the $300 million damages verdict for US Department of Justice vs. Allied Home Mortgage Corporation.
Prior to joining The Brattle Group, Dr. Sandy was an Assistant Professor in finance at the University of Missouri. He has also taught undergraduate and graduate-level courses in investments. His research has been featured on the Harvard Law School Forum on Corporate Governance and Financial Regulation, as well as on MarketWatch.
