Brattle Economists Author Report on the Benefits of Expanding Interregional Transmission
Prepared with funding from the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC)
Brattle economists have released a report that summarizes the benefits of expanding interregional transmission, documents the barriers to the planning and development of beneficial interregional projects, and develops a roadmap to improve interregional planning processes.
Improved processes and analytics are prerequisites for addressing the identified barriers. However, it will require federal and state policymakers and planning authorities to prioritize interregional issues. In the report, the authors offer initial thoughts on what the role of these authorities should be in reducing the identified barriers, implementing the recommended planning process improvements, and addressing the associated regulatory constraints.
